New site

Launching a new site tonight, www.newyearsinsocal.com basically it’s a listing of events for New Year’s Eve in So Cal. Granted, we mostly just end up at someone’s house, if something really cool came along I just might do it (but come on, it’d have to be really cool).  The list will not denote what is good or not, just a guide for people to see what’s happening without spending a ton of time online or reading the paper (um, newspaper, it’s this thing that folds, nevermind).

Update 10.25.06

How to recount the last 2+ months? Busy I guess with lots of new challenges and some old favorites. The future looks good, but I don’t want to jinx anything there.

As far as opinions, I have a few:

1) Primetime TV this season is not too good, this might be the worst year for PT since 1997.

2) The ‘Canes were being cheap-shotted all night by FIU. FIU bodyslammed our guy first. A ‘Cane swung a helmet – what did he hit – a shoulder pad. A ‘Cane tried to stomp on a guy – what did he hit – he lightly grazed a guy’s ass. A bunch of guys from both teams slapped at each other’s helmets and padded selves – who got hurt – no one got hurt. Did the whole thing look bad? Sure it looked real bad. Did anyone get hurt? No one got physically hurt. What would the reaction have been if the holder’s back had been broken, BM had stomped on a guy’s spine, Reddick had swung a helmet and hit a coach or official or other unhelmeted head – of course the day-after reaction would have been much different and much more severe and hard-hitting and rightly so. A lot of the kids involved have football and not much else going for them right now. It’s bad enough that they all won’t make the NFL, they won’t make any serious money playing football, they’ll disappear. I was thinking yesterday whatever happened to Magic Benton or Danyell Ferguson? Those guys seemed totally ready for the NFL, ready for primetime. What became of T-Mack or K.C. Jones or Ryan Clement or Scott Covington? I’m pretty sure that kicking a kid out of school for a meaningless (no one got hurt) fight that only looked bad but didn’t have any serious end result isn’t going to help them rehabilitate into a useful member of society-at-large.
